SHEEP IN THE FOLD
|
Karen Raney, a tenacious lady F.B.I. agent, is ensnarled in a baffling pursuit of an unknown evildoer. As Karen chases flimsy leads in a long running bank robbery investigation she senses her bank robber has morphed into a more vicious felon and is staking out a new criminal venture. Worse, it is likely the former loner has assembled a large and sophisticated criminal enterprise to assist his unscrupulous endeavors. The twists and turns become more and more convoluted as Karen attempts to understand and identify the criminal enterprise. Is she dealing with ordinary criminals, in it for the money, or is she up against an extremist political organization, resorting to the most odious of criminal tactics to achieve it’s political objectives? Wrestling an invisible opponent, and pressing deeper and deeper into the shadowy underworld, Karen finally comes face to face with her prime suspect. Declaring his innocence, the suspect outlines a claim of terrorism unfolding on American soil. A home grown ‘red herring’ group, or a vast network of serious foreign terrorists? The clues dropped into Karen’s lap and evidence she gathers on her own, point to infiltration onto American soil, by foreign terrorists, over several decades. Has a sleeping American law enforcement community allowed the enemy to penetrate deep into the fabric of American society? Is a highly evolved terror group, honed to a razor sharp state of operational readiness, positioning itself to embark on an epic campaign of terror? Battling inertia and skepticism, within a long entrenched political administration, Karen leads a dramatic foreign mission to retrieve a terrorist leader back onto American soil and extract his confession. In a strange dance of survival, Karen intertwines with her suspected criminal nemesis—an unlikely alliance that adds intrigue, romance and uncertainty to the story mix. Will Karen roll up both the terrorist network and her long time American criminal adversary, or will she destroy her career and end up on the wrong side of the law. The plot secrets are unraveled slowly, in an unpredictable arrangement of action in the present and through the use of ‘back story’ to enlighten and inform the readers understanding of all of the plot issues. |
